Traditional With a Modern Twist

From the ornate Catholic ceremony to their reception’s stylish waterside cafe, this Sydney wedding is the perfect combination of traditional and modern. We love the light summery palette and the little touches Jenny + Anthony added to make the day fun like the giant “YAY” marquee lights. Tell us about your proposal. I love the premise of adventure and young love between Carl & Ellie in the movie UP, so it was fitting that Anthony had covered our loft apartment with hundreds of bright balloons! We both share the same birthday so as I walked in, I just thought this was a birthday surprise – but as I turned around, he was down on one knee and asked the question. We then spent the rest of the night eating pizza and drinking beer!

How did you know your partner was the one? After 13 years, it’s really hard to remember and pinpoint the “single” moment, but I’ve always loved the fact that he would always come to pick my girlfriends and I up from the bar, and drive us all individually home. It’s something very simple, but a very endearing gesture.

What do you love most about your partner? He’s a very “yes” man – always up for travelling, a drink at a gin bar, dancing with me like a goof or just being a couch potato all weekend.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day? The dancing! As much as we treasured the ceremony, we really truly felt relaxed as day turned into night, and we were able to sit and absorb all the hard work our vendors put in. Our bridal party also rocked it with choreographed entrances and hilarious speeches (think – Ginuwine and pony outfits, and plenty of rapping!)

Describe your wedding theme/style. All we wanted to do was the chance to celebrate and throw one big party! We wanted a relaxed, minimal and light summery palette but an injection of us – so, our KFC bucket cake, our giant YAY marquee lights, and cheeky stamping on our groomsmen suspenders.

What is marriage to you? We like to say marriage is like a great bottle of red wine – it makes you happy, makes you feel good, is best shared with family and friends, and just… gets better with age!
