David + Jenna: A minimalist warehouse wedding

12

There is a natural ease to David + Jenna’s relationship that was clear to them from the very beginning - a sign they are meant to be. When you and your partner just ‘click’, spending time together comes as easy as breathing - it develops into a bond that transcends all others.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROPOSAL.

It was New Year’s Eve. The day of the proposal, he took me to some of the places around Columbus that had played critical parts in our relationship - our favorite coffee shop, the plant conservatory where we first told each other we loved one another. After an elegant dinner, we drove through a wooded area near our neighborhood. He stopped the car, and asked me to get out with him. We walked into the ravine - a route we would walk through often in the afternoon, and then asked me to remove a photo he had placed inside my purse. It was a picture of his hands, offering a ring! I turned around in surprise to find him on one knee, offering the very same ring to me. It was perfect.

HOW DID YOU KNOW YOUR PARTNER WAS THE ‘ONE’?

His: I had always been afraid of or cynical about marriage, and with Jenna, I wasn’t afraid anymore. It made the most sense I could imagine.

Hers: There was a ease to our relationship which I’ve never experienced prior. Spending time together was easy and laughter came naturally. We were both all in early on.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR PARTNER?

His: I love how adventurous Jenna is. She’s a friend to everyone she meets and loves to try new things, see new places, sample new foods, experience new cultures - the list goes on. Her enthusiasm is infectious to me and keeps me young!

Hers: The first thing I noticed about David is also what I love most about him. David is so intentional with each person he meets. Every person to encounter him never fails to leave the conversation with a sense of being known and encouragement. His heart for other’s is so admirable.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE WEDDING DAY?

The absolute best part of our day was being surrounded and supported by so many incredible friends. The sense of community and joyful encouragement from our entire network of friends and family was the most rousing, energetic, incredibly overwhelming experience of both of our lives.

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING THEME.

Minimal, clean, modern. We chose to dispense with “wedding colors”, instead utilising natural foliage, simple white-washed tables, signage in black text on white backgrounds, and simple, straightforward bridal party dress in white, black and grey.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE DETAIL?

We were so involved in, and in love with every detail of our day, so it’s difficult to choose just one. The florals and table settings that our close friend Heather from Evergreen Floral Co made were exquisite. We also adored the backdrop for our ceremony. We painted a giant canvas and then our coordinator, Meredith (from Auburn and Ivory), figured out how to cleverly fly it from overhead beams behind us, so that it appeared to hover three feet above the ground - perfectly framing us and the officiant. After the ceremony, we used the canvas as a backdrop for the photo booth, pairing a Fuji Instax and some props with it!

WHAT IS MARRIAGE TO YOU?

Marriage is really just life spent with your best friend. It is joy in the mundane moments of everyday life, comfort in difficult times, and a sense of connectedness that transcends every other relationship.
