Sarah and Mark

An International Celebration:
As the couple were planning to live in Sydney, they thought it fitting that they tie the knot in Sarah’s mother’s homeland. Almost half of the guest list travelled from Australia to Scotland for their autumn-themed wedding, which Sarah says was an “overwhelming response”.

The mustard hues of the bridesmaids’ dresses were complemented by posies of blooms in resplendent shades and adorned with wild berries hand-picked by the florist. Even the boys got into the spirit, with the Australian gents sporting the traditional kilts, jackets, sporrans, brogues, socks and daggers to mark the occasion!

Gown:
Sarah drew the inspiration for her gown from the black-and-white Fred and Ginger movies she used to love when she was little.
“I used to love how the girls would storm off in a strop and her amazing dress would swish and move as she strutted,” Sarah says.
Her sleek, silk dress with fitted bodice, low-cut back and jewelled belt was just perfect and “floated with my every move like liquid,” she says.
The bride also recycled one of her best friend’s veils to honour the tradition of ‘something borrowed’.
“I loved that I was wearing something she wore on her wedding day,” Sarah says. “It made me feel very elegant and glam.”

Traditions:
The entire day was infused with a diverse array of customs inspired by the couples own heritage and that of their guests.
In a Turkish tradition, Sarah’s bridesmaids scribbled all of their names on the soles of her shoes. The folklore goes that the bridesmaids whose names are rubbed off during the course of the festivities will become brides themselves within the next year!
Whether there’s something to it or whether Mark’s playlist was just exceptionally good Sarah can’t be sure, but she says owing to the fact all the names were gone by the end of the night, she must have a lot of weddings to go to next year!
