Modern Love Ceremonies

Cara is a young, modern and approachable marriage celebrant based in Byron Bay.

Hi there! I’m Cara, and I’m a young, modern and approachable marriage celebrant based in Byron Bay. When I married my husband in 2009, I found the search for a celebrant for our wedding a little daunting, so I asked a friend to become a celebrant to perform our ceremony.

A week later, my sister stole my idea and asked me to become a celebrant to marry her to her beau. I’m forever grateful to her for that request. I’ve been marrying couples for six years now and I love what I do. I love standing tall with people who are making this momentous life decision, and I’m honoured to share such a big moment with them.

I love taking the time to get to know my couples and providing the perfect, specialised ceremony that’s just right for them. I’m friendly and welcoming and interested in hearing about your life as a couple and the reasons why you love each other. This helps me deliver a special and unique service that both of you will cherish and that all your guests will remember too.

  • What do you love most about what you do? Being involved in 'big love' moments, whether it's seeing a woman walk down the aisle with her birth dad and step dad or watching a couple exchange incredibly meaningful vows. It's not everyday that you get to see something that makes you cry from pure joy, but I get to be a part of these moments every weekend (and some week days).
  • What gets you out of bed in the morning? My kids. At 5am. Every. Morning.
  • What is your advice for a healthy, long lasting relationship? Forgive each other for harsh words said during the sleepless nights of raising young children. Try to make time to go on dates and connect as often as you can. Nurture your relationship and be actively grateful that you have someone who loves you, and who you love in return.
  • What is your best advice to couples planning their wedding? Be empathic, but in the end, do what makes you happy. There is absolutely no way you can make everyone 100% happy regarding how you choose to get married. Listen to your heart, (is anyone else singing Roxette?), and then just do exactly what you want.
