Vendor feature: Short + Spook

The talented folks behind Short and Spook, Courtney and Steph, are truly passionate about achieving “the dream” for couples when it comes to their wedding styling. Here they give us a sneak peek behind the scenes, sharing how they began their creative journey, and the ins and outs of their collaborative business.

What’s the inspiration behind your company?
Courtney: We want our couples to not only enjoy the day but also enjoy the entire process! We don’t let our couples spend any time sweating the small stuff!
Steph: We love creating innovative and beautiful weddings. Our weddings are about the couple, no-one else! We love using traditions but tweaking them to suit the couple.

How did you go about starting it up?
Steph: Courtney and I have been friends since we were 14, brought together by our creative and WILD imaginations! We have always indulged in our creative hobbies together; we made jewellery, clothes … anything that was crafty or had an element of design - we loved it!
Eventually it led to decorations, then decorations for friend’s weddings, then decorations for friend’s of friend’s weddings and then all of sudden we had clients that we had no connection to at all! It was very exciting and we of course jumped at the chance to start our little business.

What makes your business unique?
Courtney: I would say because our team are not trained in traditional weddings. They come from design, visual merchandising and event backgrounds so they have creative and completely open minds!

What does a typical day look like for you?
Steph: Our studio is small and cosy. We drink lots of tea and coffee, we listen to fun music and we laugh a lot! We start the day by answering emails, updating clients and checking in with our suppliers and then we jump right into the fun, creative stuff. We often forget to take lunch breaks because we are so immersed in what we are doing! We take the team out for lunch every now and then to make up for it though!

What’s your favourite thing about working with couples?
Courtney: Getting the client’s design right, absolutely nailing their style, wants and needs - we love exceeding their expectations! And of course, making new friends!

What does marriage mean to you?
Steph: Loving someone so much you want to scream it from the rooftops! So much that you just have to say it and commit to it in front of all of your friends and family. It’s all about love and sharing that love with your nearest and dearest.
