Tell us about your proposal. We got engaged on a Bali holiday that Veeral organised. We were staying at the Alila Uluwatu Villas when Veeral apparently ‘took up an offer’ for a private outdoor dinner. After dinner, we returned to find our villa beautifully decorated, and shortly after Veeral proposed! It was very thoughtfully planned, I couldn’t have imagined anything nicer.

How did you know your partner was the one? Veeral and I did long distance for the first four and half years of our relationship. He was living in Fiji, where we both live now, and I was in Sydney. I knew he was the one because I would start to feel horribly sad whenever his time in Sydney would be coming to an end.

What do you love most about your partner? Veeral has a great smile, it fills up his whole face… as in he literally grins from ear to ear. He actually reminds me of the Cheshire Cat from Alice and Wonderland.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day? It was definitely stepping into the mandap and seeing Veeral in his suit, looking a bit emotional! My mum helped me step into the mandap, she made me feel like everything was under control and fine. Veeral’s mum made a “looking great” hand gesture to me, which made me laugh and relax. I loved being in the mandap with Veeral and both of our parents, it was very special.

Describe your wedding theme/style. Understated and modern. Clean and simple. I wanted our wedding to reflect our personal tastes. We both tend to be drawn to neutral colours, simple colour palettes, and less accessories.. so we went with an all-white ceremony set up and minimal décor. Our reception (held in a marquee) was also minimally decorated, the most dramatic part was probably the backdrop of fairy lights. We were lucky in that our wedding location was naturally beautiful, so it didn’t need a lot of dressing up.

What is marriage to you? Marriage is a promise between two best friends to journey together through life with all its ups and downs, to nurture one another’s minds and spirits, and to remember to have lots of fun along the way. Sometimes one person may forget about the having fun part, so the other person has to remind them. I know that Veeral will always remind me.
