The Ultimate Chicago Soiree: Eclectic, Casual + Vintage

1

Eclectic with a hint of 1920s glam, this Chicago soiree has stolen our hearts. While the whole day is extravagant in its beauty and charm, with ornate vintage details and string lights across the reception, this sweet couple wanted to keep it as casual as possible. Eireann wore her favorite black leather jacket and leopard print boots. And the couple requested donations to charities close to their hearts instead of gifts. From a romantic first look to a dazzling reception, Sullivan & Sullivan Photography captured every detail of this day beautifully for us! Keep reading to get to know about this fun-loving couple and see more from the day.

How did you know your partner was the one? Sean knew early on that I loved Taco Bell. On Valentine’s Day just a few weeks after we first met, he texted me a photo of two tacos from Taco Bell that he’d arranged into the shape of a heart. The effort he put into something so silly and sweet made me laugh.

What do you love most about your partner? I love how much he challenges me. He’s so smart and quick and funny, I have to stay on my toes to keep up with him. I love the small things he does to make me laugh, even if it means embarrassing himself in public.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day? Before our “big” wedding, we eloped on 10/2/2017 in a private ceremony in Washington, DC. We had a quick five minute ceremony on Signers’ Island in Constitution Gardens on the National Mall. No guests. The day was perfect. His baseball season had just ended the day before, and I had the afternoon off from work, so we both thought “why not?!”

I loved celebrating our elopement by going out to get tacos afterward. It was just our style and it really felt like our own day.

Describe your wedding theme/style. Our style was fairly eclectic. Sean and I were both fairly embarrassed at the idea of having a big party just for us, so we tried to keep it as casual and fun as possible. I wore my favorite black leather jacket from Madewell over my wedding dress, and some fun leopard print boots.

What is marriage to you? Marriage is finding someone who fulfills you and challenges you all at once. But it’s also about balancing each other out — understanding each others strengths and weaknesses — and finding ways to support one another based on those strengths and weaknesses. I’m extremely impulsive, and Sean is extremely measured and thoughtful. He is always there to make sure I take a few extra moments to really think about how I’m going to do something. And I’m always there to make sure he remembers to occasionally let go of plans, trust his instinct, and have fun just for the sake of fun.
