Stories by Jen: Annika & Benni

2

After meeting and falling in love 7 years prior, Benni proposed to Annika on a beautiful Balinese cliff top overlooking the ocean. The pair have travelled and lived in different corners of the world, but have always known that home is wherever they have each other . It was important to the couple to incorporate their German heritage with their love for Australian culture on their special day. The combination of a breathtaking bride, an ecstatic groom, rolling hills and stunning décor made for a perfect day.

What is special about your relationship?

We have known each other for such a long time now and we know we can count on each other. We are a team in private life, moving to the other side of the world and back again together, and a team in business life, running the creative department of a young branding agency. The biggest gift of all is to have someone on your side that always supports you and makes you feel at home, no matter where you are.

Inspiration for the big day?

We love nature and the countryside so we instantly fell in love with Hofgut Hohenstein in the Odenwald region south of Frankfurt. The setting is stunning with views over rolling hills, surrounded by forests and overlooking a little lake. It felt like the perfect spot for our casual summer wedding. With the theme for our wedding we wanted to bring together both worlds, our German roots and our love for Australia. The Sydney theme came into play for our stationery and decorations. The tables were named after our favourite suburbs of Sydney.

Advice to other couples

I guess timing is the most important thing. Plan everything well ahead and really take your time for all the details. I had no idea how much time would fall into organising, planning, talking to suppliers and such. If you also want to do a lot of DIY details, well then pencil in even more time. I am still absolutely amazed by how much money you can save with clever DIY ideas. In choosing a theme I would always recommend to go for something that comes naturally and that tells your story. It makes your day even more unique and personal, and it is a great talking point for your guests.
