Sille + Tim: A Danish-Australian Wedding

0

On a lazy Sunday while they walked their little puppy, Audrey, in Yarra Bend Parklands, Sille and Tim discussed having a party to celebrate Sille’s recently acquired de facto visa. To Sille’s complete surprise, instead of arguing about how to make sure people knew that the party was NOT a wedding, Tim knelt down and held up a ring designed by one of Sille’s closest friends in Denmark. “We can just make it easy for everyone — you can just marry me?”

With a ten week timeline to plan their wedding, Sille and Tim pulled together both local and international vendors to create a casual Australian beach wedding with a twist of old Scandanavian tradition. “We decided from the beginning that we were never going to have a traditional Danish or Australian wedding, so we chose to pick the parts we liked from both and create our own.”

From Sille’s Danish background, the bride and groom embraced unlimited speeches, an array of original songs customised to the couple, and decorated the venue with Danish flags galore. “All our Danish guests thought they had the most Australian wedding ever, and all the Aussies thought they had the most Danish wedding ever, so all together we think we nailed the cultural differences and had the best day ever. It took a big party to make sure our worlds from both sides of the world finally met!”

The most memorable part of the wedding day:

Sille: “Being completely overwhelmed by being in a room with so many people you love. Also, the amazing speeches!”
Tim: “Having our friends and family from all around the world meeting at one of our favourite places to party and celebrate us.”
