Ria + Billy: A barnyard wedding

Ria + Billy’s wedding was about throwing a brilliant party to celebrate their love and commitment to one another, surrounded by all of their beautiful friends and family – and that, it certainly was. See for yourself in the stunning photos captured by Tom Rowlins, from Raw Lens media, below!

Tell us about your proposal.

Billy had a truck that needed to be sold, but it had been sitting around depreciating, with me half-jokingly suggesting to Billy that he sell it, put the money in a high investment bank account and buy me an engagement ring. Finally, the truck was sold and I was on cloud nine as surely my ring would be arriving any day, until Billy informed me a few weeks later he was now the proud new owner of a boat.

Little did I know that Billy, and my best friend had been scheming, and a ring had been purchased. When I returned from a trip to Byron Bay, nursing a rather filthy hangover, I arrived home to find Billy had set up cheese platter along with a bottle of wine, that I really didn’t really feel like. While that wasn’t out of the ordinary, it was certainly unexpected. So when Billy handed me a book, I opened it to find the pages had been hollowed out into the shape of a heart and the most perfect engagement ring and the words saying ‘Will you marry me?’.

My heart stopped as I looked at Billy, then back at the book, then at Billy, then at the book, with Billy’s heart racing hoping that I would hurry up and say yes! Finally, with tears in my eyes, I said yes!

How did you know your partner was the one?

The first six months of our relationship was ‘long distance’. I lived in Melbourne and Billy lived in Sale. We’d try and spend every weekend together. When we had to leave each other, I would get that empty feeling when I got back to Melbourne. From this moment on, I knew he was the one so I was willing to make the sacrifice to move to Sale. Best decision I’ve ever made.

What do you love most about your partner?

Billy: It’s hard for me to narrow down what I love about Ria because I really love everything. Some things that stand out to me is that Ria is the most capable woman I have ever met. She is determined and an absolute go getter. I love her kindness and bubbly nature, she makes everyone around her feel happy. I love that Ria has never once told me how I should live my life – OK, except for my punctuality and cleanliness – she allows me to just be myself. I love that Ria is so encouraging, supportive, has a groovy sense of humour and that she is really the most beautiful person I have ever met.

Ria: Billy is the perfect package. I love that he’s a man’s man – he can catch a fish, fillet it and then cook it perfectly! I love that I have the most fun when I am with Billy – he is my best friend and a good time is always guaranteed when we’re together. I love Billy’s high pitched laugh and his Asian eyes when he smiles. I love that Billy has no idea about fashion trends – he just rocks his own style. I love that when Billy is away for work, I cannot wait for his return, and I want to soak up as much time with him as possible. Billy is the perfect man for me and I cannot imagine my life without him.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day?

Walking down the aisle to the love of my life was a surreal moment. At one stage I forgot about our wedding guests surrounding us as I was just so excited to get to the end of the aisle to be with my soon to be husband. Our ceremony was perfect! It was casual, funny, romantic and emotional all in one. My cheeks hurt from smiling so much through out it. Also the speeches were great!! Hearing such beautiful words from a special few was really lovely. Oh, and crowd surfing was defiantly a favorite moment. I saw Billy do it and thought well if he can do it, why can’t I?!

Describe your wedding theme.

The rustic feel of The Barn worked perfectly to incorporate a modern, art deco feel that we were after. We had the very talented Annabel from BelCo Events do the styling for our wedding. We gave Annabel a brief and budget and she ran with it – creating a styling concept beyond anything we could have imagined.

What was your favourite detail?

Our wedding was about throwing a brilliant party to celebrate our love and commitment to one another, surrounded by all our beautiful friends and family – and that it certainly was.

What is marriage to you?

Marriage represents to us love, happiness, support, respect and loyalty. We are committing to loving each other through the good times and the challenging times, always standing side by side. We can’t wait to come together as a family and look forward to growing old together. We are so excited about our future, feeling that the best is really yet to come.
