Prunella

The team behind Prunella are passionate about finding beauty in the seasonal landscape and sharing this with their clients. Their signature style of romantic, natural, unstructured and wild arrangements has made Prunella a stand out in its field. ‘We like to embrace texture and fragrance and allow our beautiful materials to speak for themselves. We embrace scale to create original, arresting arrangements.’ Here the talented pair share their journey.

How did your business come about? We both moved to the country about eight years ago. In fact, we bought houses on the same street and started our business within weeks of meeting each other. We were both so inspired by the countryside and the seasonal bounty available to us. Being able to bring that natural, wild beauty into a space and watching nature transform it is a wonderful thing.

What services do you offer? We focus on designing floral installations for weddings and events and we have also recently launched our first venue space Churchill, which gives us an opportunity to extend the signature Prunella style beyond just the botanical. We can now deliver a complete experience from setting to food and wine, of course flowers and all those other beautiful styling elements and details.

Where do you gather inspiration from? We are continually inspired by interiors, photography, art, fashion and films as well as the natural world around us. Collaborating and
swapping stories with other creative people is always a great source of creativity too.

What are your favourite flowers to work with? Special favourite … big fragrant garden roses. Our favourite palette depends on the project but we do love a neutral palette
incorporating touches of blush and taupe, adding a pop of coral or raspberry for a slightly more contemporary vibe and fresh greens. Or sometimes the opposite – dark, moody, textured – deep reds, dark pinks …

What excites you most about creating with flowers? The endless potential for experiencing beauty; being up close to nature; how the scent of a particular flower can immediately transport you to a time in your life like your wedding day, a special holiday or a moment from your childhood.

What do you love most about weddings and working with couples? We especially love it when couples come to see us and the guys are into the flowers! We have even had grooms thank us in their wedding speeches because they were so blown away by the flowers we did for their wedding. That’s our favourite bit, when we can exceed the clients’ expectations and create something that our couples couldn’t have imagined.

Has there been a stand out wedding or event that has really defined your careers? One of our favourite recent events was a wedding in a beautiful rambling garden that progressed through different areas in the garden and up to the house. Our role was to extend the wild feeling of the garden further into these spaces. Our team created beautiful floral garlands that looked like they were growing down the walls, overflowing garden urns that could have come straight out of a Dutch Masters painting and lovely whimsical details like floral necklaces for the statues in the garden.

How do you continue to search for new ways to create? We see ourselves as architects of nature’s bounty, choosing the most beautiful seasonal flowers and foliage we can find and combining them to capture our client’s imagination. The combinations and possibilities for creating are endless.
