Polished and refined. Intimate and modern. Tash + Jason wanted to create a wedding that represented them. The result was a beautiful blend of modern-romantic and urban-chic. The Wedding Day
Jason and I were married on 3 February 2018 at Guildhall Event Space, North Fremantle (Western Australia), on a very hot and steamy summer afternoon. This did not stop us and our wonderful guests from enjoying the celebrations, which included some very messy (and sweaty) dancing under the stars.
We decided on an intimate gathering with our closest friends and family (60 people in total). Guildhall’s beautiful iconic heritage building and quaint courtyard was therefore the perfect venue for us. Although relatively small in size, the building has been carefully restored to enhance its grandness and old-worldly opulence.
We held our ceremony out in the courtyard, under a beautiful floating arbour adorned in seeded peppercorn foliage and seasonal joey fern and with embellishments of David Austin garden roses, spray roses and cymbidium orchids. We didn’t want our ceremony or the exchanging of vows to be too serious or formal, so we tried to keep things light, simple and loving.
Jason and I decided on having our wedding photoshoot before the ceremony, where we had arranged to meet at a location beforehand to have some time to ourselves. This also allowed us to hop straight into the celebrations with our guests after the ceremony, instead of leaving for photos. We are so glad we did this as we didn’t feel like we missed out on our own wedding and it allowed us some extra time to catch up with most of our guests.
The evening progressed with a long-table candlelit feast, consisting of the most delicious Middle-Eastern inspired food, prepared by the brilliant team at neighbouring Propeller Restaurant. During the feast, Jason managed to make all the girls cry with his touching and tear-inducing speech, which most certainly put mine to shame. Jason:1. Natasha:0 In hindsight, I probably should have gone first.
We concluded our feast with our wedding cake and the tastiest desserts, which included a dreamy bespoke Persian brioche doughnut creation by Nermin from Hello Sukar, which consisted of chocolate, tahini, rose and honey syrup, topped with pistachios and Turkish delight to fit with the Middle-Eastern inspired food theme. Nermin was kind enough to create this for us upon special request, and we are sure glad we did as our guests still rave about those doughnuts to this very day! Our beautiful gold-leaf adorned wedding cake (almost too pretty to eat) was created by Poh from Petit Poh. It consisted of vanilla bean sponge infused with real raspberries with delicate orange blossom and rosewater notes. Again, ensuring that the flavours of our cake tied in nicely with the Middle-Eastern inspired food theme.
After dessert, our guests helped themselves to spirits at the bar while some wild dancing ensued in the courtyard under the stars.
The Wedding Style
If I could describe our wedding style, I’d say it was a blend of modern romantic/urban chic. Although our wedding was small, relaxed and non-traditional in many aspects, Jason and I still wanted something a little bit more polished and refined and tried to avoid having one of those typical rustic “hipster” weddings, which we felt was not really representative of who we are as a couple.
In essence, I feel as though this was reflected on the day and looking back at our amazing photos taken by the very talented Nikki from Love Her Photography, we feel this vibe was captured perfectly. We wouldn’t have changed a thing. We really were blessed with the ultimate dream team.
The Proposal
After 10 years together, Jason proposed to me in Japan under the cherry blossom trees (as such, Japan holds some pretty special memories for us). We tried to incorporate this into some of our finer wedding details. Our wedding invitations (designed by the talented Jayden from Parker & Pablo) featured a custom illustration depicting cherry blossoms and our incredible florist and dear friend, Bec from the Bloom Romantic was able to source the most breathtaking blush Japanese ranunculus which featured in my bridal bouquet.
