What was your inspiration for the business?

I’m not a fan of traditional posed-type wedding photos so I wanted to provide natural, in-the-moment and candid portraits for couples. I fall in love every time I look through the lens, and the unique details of every wedding have me hooked. It was a very natural progression into wedding photography for me once I’d started.

How did you go about starting up?

I was asked by a couple if I would photograph their wedding, knowing I hadn’t shot any weddings before. Not one to say no to an opportunity, I said yes. And so it started. I didn’t have a business plan as such, I just followed my instincts and made myself available, and the bookings followed.

What are you offering that is different from the rest?

I’m offering my creative vision. I don’t really know what I’ll be looking for until the moment I am standing there staring at it, so whatever I am delivering comes from a very spontaneous and real place. I am super friendly and easy to get along with, so at every wedding it winds up feeling like I’m photographing friends and I might even join in the celebrations with a little skip about the dance floor as I am shooting. I offer a very relaxed and calm experience.

What gets you out of bed every day?

Coffee. And my love of life.

What do you love about your job?

I love that I can do things my own way. I love that my work is done at my own pace. I love that every shoot is completely different to the last, no two days are ever the same. I love editing. I love the interaction with people. I love it all!

What does marriage mean to you?

When I am photographing weddings I am thinking less about the marriage part and more about the celebration of the union of two people among their nearest and dearest. That’s what I love to capture; the joy, the tears, the declarations of love and the effect that has on everyone present. I am excited that following the celebration these two people I have had the pleasure of photographing will be off on the adventure of their lifetime, together. Marriage to me is spending your days with your best friend. And I get excited about that for every couple the day after their wedding, sort of like post-wedding bliss.

Tell us about your favourite experience as a business owner?

There are way too many favourite experiences to mention, but I’d say hearing a bride had tears in her eyes when she saw her wedding photos for the first time is up there. Or reading a message from a parent of the bride or groom saying how much they loved having me at the wedding. These moments leave me feeling very appreciated, and I feel humbled that I had a part in providing that kind of joy for people. That makes me proud of what I do, and makes me keen to keep doing it.
