Mike + Cait: a secret elopement

At one stage, during the wedding planning process, the thought of escaping to an exotic destination to hurry up and elope crosses the minds of most couples. But for this adventurous pair, Mike and Cait - their secret elopement in Santorini was all part of the plan.

“Because we were secretly eloping to Santorini, we had told all of our families that we were going on holidays back to Port Douglas and the Daintree. I had told everyone that my phone was broken so they would be forced to contact me on Mike’s phone. Mike activated global roaming on his phone so people were able to contact us. We also downloaded some photos of areas near Port Douglas and the Daintree from Tripadvisor and sent these to our parents and friends as updates of our holiday. Little did they know.

We had sent out invitations to everyone notifying them of our “wedding day” in Sydney. Everyone turned up thinking it was our wedding day, my bridesmaid and I had hair and makeup done, we had the wedding car, the guys stayed the night at Manly the night before. My father even had the opportunity to walk me down the aisle. However, our celebrant was not a real celebrant (she was a close friend of ours who no one else at the “wedding” knew) and instead of doing our vows, we played a slideshow of the photographs of our wedding in Santorini,” shares Cait.
