Mel + Don: Intimate Elopement

For Mel and Don, the most important thing in their lives is family. Including their children in everything the couple do is always a priority, so when Don proposed to Mel, he perfectly incorporated the kid-lets Patrick, Sofia and Olivia.

The family were getting ready to go out to dinner when Don nodded to his son, Patrick. He swiftly left the room and returned minutes later with a little purple box. In a beautifully touching moment, Don and Patrick both then asked Olivia, Sofia and Mel if they would like to be a family forever.

For the special day the couple opted for an intimate elopement and rather than sticking to a theme, the pair focused on simply making the day memorable for the whole family. Breaking away from tradition, Mel and Don eloped on Tamborine Mountain, where they had their first date, and Mel says it was the perfect way to join together as a family.

Offering a word of advice to other brides-to-be who want to keep things simple, Mel says, “The day doesn’t have to be about how much money you spend, how many people can attend or appeasing other people. It should be about you and your future husband. It should be a wonderful experience and something that brings you joy. The core of the marriage is your relationship and that needs to be your focus.”
