Maple Lane takes a fresh approach to hair and makeup offering modern, natural styles that last and make clients feel themselves – not a false version of themselves. Here they share the ins and outs of their business, and why they love helping brides look and feel beautiful on their wedding day.

What’s the inspiration behind your company/business?
We love weddings but understand how busy and stressful they can be, so we wanted to appeal to the busy bride who wanted a one stop shop where we could look after their hair and makeup needs in the comfort of their hotel room or home so they don’t have to worry about a thing on the morning of their big day. Having hair and makeup together fits in perfectly and being a team tends to make our clients more comfortable knowing we all work together with similar styling to make their look seamless.

How did you go about starting it up?
I had my own freelance makeup business for around a year and aligned myself with a hair stylist that we referred to each other. Once we started to get more and more busy we decided to merge our business under the one banner and include hair and makeup to simplify the booking process and also grow our team. In amongst creating a professional website, social media and participating in wedding expos and advertising opportunities, we also formed close industry networks. Strong word of mouth is definitely important.

What does a typical day look like for you?
Everyday is so different! Weddings are our biggest business so our weekends (Friday to Sunday) are generally spent on the road to the Hunter Valley, Port Stephens, the Central Coast or Newcastle meeting with our brides and bridal parties to get them ready for their big days. Other days might be filled with photoshoots, marketing activities or bookwork.

What’s your favourite thing about working with brides?
That it’s such a happy day for them. We are usually the first people to see the bride the morning of their wedding, so seeing the excitement to nerves to tears as well as seeing the girls fresh faced in robes totally transformed in a gown is really rewarding. It is great to be involved in the happiest days of people’s lives - we get to go to weddings for a living!

What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage is spending your life with the one person you can’t live without. Sharing the ups and downs and the rollercoaster of life together. It’s about appreciating the small stuff, making time for each other no matter how busy life gets and enjoying magical moments together.
