Lush Outdoor Wedding

Manu and Tessa tied the knot at the beautiful Merribee house in Numbaa. Together with their crafty friends, the couple worked tirelessly in the lead up to their wedding, hoping to create a day that everyone would enjoy. They hand-made most of the decorations for the day (including hand painted signs, stationary, bunting and confetti) and a wooden arbor from wood sourced from Tessa’s family home in the Blue Mountains.

With a vision of a “lush, romantic, and a classy sort of evening” the couple turned Merribee’s rustic wooden barn into a romantic jungle of luscious hanging greens, pops of soft white flowers and green foliage, and chandeliers and scattered candles. The couple were happy to pass on most traditions and Manu chose to have his best friend Jacqui as his Best Woman alongside Tessa’s brother as the Man of Honour.

Mother nature attempted to sabotage their plans of an intimate outdoor wedding ceremony in Merribee’s ‘secret garden’ and as the day grew closer, the forecast kept getting worse. With torrential rain predicted for the big day, guests were told to bring their gumboots and raincoats.

After spending the Friday prior to the wedding decorating the barn in the dark thanks to a local blackout, the couple woke to overcast skies, forecasts of heavy rain, and the return of the local power. Miraculously, the rain held off until later in the night and the moody, overcast skies provided the perfect backdrop to appreciate the grounds of Merribee.

Guests enjoyed lawn games, acoustic tunes sung by Jake Edgley, and share-style grazing tables and platters prepared by Rabbit and Co. They also enlisted the services of the Story of Us who cleverly captured their wedding day vibes on film.

Celebrant Sophie Coombes created a unique ceremony that expressed the personalities of the couple, complete with a coin toss to decide the surname Tess and Manu would adopt. Plus, the pair’s toy cavoodle, Winston, was their ring bearer, and surprise vows moved even the hardest of hearts.

To top off a brilliant day, the couple made donations to Breast Cancer Australia and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in lieu of wedding favours and in recognition of those close to them who have suffered from these conditions.
