And to usher in her new collection, Jennifer has given us a little behind the scenes look into her world. Read on to find out all there is to know about Jennifer Gifford Designs.

What was your inspiration for the business?

I wanted to create beautiful handmade wedding gowns that are timeless and elegant, comfortable and unique. Something that is created with the individual in mind rather than being trend driven and mass produced.

How did you go about starting up?

I really just went for it! In the beginning I was creating bridesmaids’ dresses, mother of the bride and even flower girls. Then I started getting busy enough with bridal gowns that I could stop doing things that I didn’t enjoy as much or that wasn’t bringing in a great return on the time I was investing in them. In the beginning I just said YES a lot and now I can say no if I want to and know it’s not going to have an adverse affect on my business.

What are you offering that is different from the rest?

I am pretty small scale working with each individual bride myself so I can create a very personal experience and a gown that truly reflect her personality. I often say that even though most of my brides now choose a gown from my collections, it very rarely looks exactly like the gown they tried on at our first consultation. I have the ability to really listen to each bride and tailor her gown to what she really wants. It’s very special.

What gets you out of bed every day?

My daughter Maeve! No seriously, I have a family and two businesses so I am often up early working before anyone else wakes up. It’s a great time to research and make plans for the day, week or month. I love having this time to myself it’s very precious.

What do you love about your job?

My brides! When I get such beautiful feedback even from the first very appointment, it makes everything worthwhile. I pride myself on genuine customer service above anything else. So girls, even if they don’t order from me, have had a friendly relaxed and fun experience at JGD and leave feeling excited rather than stressed or disillusioned.

What does marriage mean to you?

It’s a partnership; it’s having someone there that you can rely on above all others. Support, love and friendship that never questions and always has your back!

Tell us about your favourite experience as a business owner?

Getting to create beautiful garments for beautiful girls! I get to hang out in this beautiful bubble of excitement and love everyday!

What is one word of advice you would give to someone just starting out in the industry?

Find your tribe! Find a good group of motivated and giving vendors that are happy to share their experiences with you and help lift you up.
It can be a very lonely industry to work in if you don’t have a great crew who can be your support.
