REAL WEDDING: Jackie + Matt

REAL WEDDING: Jackie + Matt

When a couple is really truly in love, it doesn’t take much before they become completely inseparable. This was certainly the case for the rather adorable Jackie and Matt, who became totally smitten with one another way back in 2005 at the University of California, Los Angeles (of course it helped that Matt had the cutest Aussie accent). Fast forward a few years to their wedding, this couple celebrated one of the most amazing days of their lives in the Hunter Valley last year. Our advice? Grab a cuppa, sit back and read a few words from the incredible Jackie about her beautiful day. When you’re done, witness Jackie and Matt’s magical day through these beautiful images by the exceptionally talented Ben Adams.

On their engagement

After six years of being together, Matt proposed to me during our trip to Europe in May 2012.  We were visiting chateaux in the Loire Valley, France, when he surprisingly got down on one knee in the gardens of Chateau de Villandry and asked me to marry him.  All I remember is asking him repeatedly if he was serious and then sobbing uncontrollably (out of happiness, of course!) for what seemed like hours!

On the wedding

Styled weddings are so gorgeous, but we tried really hard not to over-style our own wedding. We just wanted something that looked beautiful and relaxed, not overdone. To keep it simple, we chose four of our favourite colours which happen to compliment each other (coral, peach, teal and mint) and used them where possible – the flowers, seating chart, table numbers, guest poster and name tags. Looking back at the photos, I feel like we achieved the understated look we were going for.

On her favourite moment

Hands down, our favourite moment of the day was when we stepped outside during the reception by ourselves. We spent a few minutes taking it all in, watching our friends and family enjoying themselves. There’s something uniquely special about seeing your nearest and dearest having a good time, and knowing that they are all there to celebrate that special moment in your lives with you.

On Marriage

We had been together for many years in a really serious relationship with no thought of doing anything differently. As strong as we were, marriage was that final confirmation (at least to us) that we fully intended on being together forever. Marriage isn’t easy and plenty of them don’t work out, but for us, the extra time together as a committed couple before marriage helped reinforce that we have something worth working on, so even if we have trouble from time to time, the only answer is to work it out.
