Intimate Summergrove Estate Wedding

1

This lovely hinterland wedding is full of DIY inspiration and the chapel made for the sweetest place to say “I do.” The unique charm of the Summergrove Estate offered the most breathtaking backdrops, including a rustic vineyard, olive groves and giant fig trees. We love the simple and minimal decor and Steph’s always stylish, Made With Love gown. Keep reading to get to know Steph and Nick and see more from their day!

Tell us about your proposal. It was the 14th January 2017 and Nick woke up early and spontaneously declared we should spend the day at the beach.  It was forecast for a heatwave that day, so I was complaining about it being far too hot for us to be outdoors. But, with some persuading, Nick managed to convince me to spend the day at one of our favourite spots, Kingscliff Beach – our dog Chester came along, too. Nick was being awfully cheerful on the way down (despite not yet having his morning coffee), but I suspected nothing. I decided to go for a quick swim, when Nick and Chester ducked off to the car to get the “sunscreen”. He appeared moments later in the surf with a very shiny ring, dropped to his knee and proposed. I don’t know what was more shocking – the fact that he was proposing or that he could have very easily lost the ring in the waves! After lots of tears and ‘oh my god’s’, I managed to blubber out a big YES. My family has a place at Kingscliff that we visit regularly and have made many memories at, so it was very special for us.

How did you know your partner was the one? They say when you meet ‘the one’ your heart stops searching and becomes content. I think this is how it happened for both of us. It was never an effort, we complemented each other perfectly and both brought the best out of each other – parts we didn’t even realize were there.

What do you love most about your partner? He has always been consistent with who he is since the day that I met him. He is humble, compassionate and loyal to his core. – Steph

She is the happiest person I know. No matter what kind of day either of us has had, she always comes home with the biggest smile on her face. – Nick

What was your favourite part of the wedding day? A stand out moment for me (Steph) was when the butterflies I had felt for the past 24 hours all seemed to disappear once those big chapel doors opened and I saw Nick’s smile at the end of the alter. But it’s hard to sum up a favourite moment when it was all so perfect. Family is really important to both of us and I guess we felt quite blessed to have family and friends that travelled from the UK, Canada, South Africa and Dubai to celebrate with us.

Describe your wedding theme/style. A little bit boho-chic, with a pop of colour! We were married in the hinterland and our reception was at a cool coastal venue which both reflected our style perfectly. All of the styling and florals were DIY – vibrant market flowers and greenery with a golden brass to complement.

What is marriage to you? It’s about finding somebody who betters you. Somebody who inspires you and encourages you in love and in life. Somebody you can experience life with; all the highs, the lows, the laughter and tears. It’s about extreme patience, understanding, deliberate love and promising to never give up on each other. If you can laugh along the way, then that’s a bonus.
