Tell us about your proposal.

It was Australia Day, so we decided to sleep in and chill with our dog Archie in the morning before heading out to a late lunch with some friends in the afternoon. We were playing with the dog at home, and Manisha and I were just chatting and laughing like we always do. All of a sudden, Manisha said “I’ve got something to ask you”. He came over to me, got down on one knee and proposed. It took me completely by surprise, but of course I was ecstatic and said yes straight away! The best part was that we already had a fun day planned with our friends – so we turned it into an impromptu engagement celebration!

How did you know your partner was the one?

I think the moment I realized Manisha was a keeper was a particular night back in 2007, when I lured him over to my house, promising to cook him dinner. Little did he know that by ‘cooking dinner’ I meant putting some dried pasta in boiling water, frying off some chorizo and adding a bottle of pasta sauce. I distinctly remember him being less than thrilled with the idea of this meal, so he promptly took over and took my pedestrian pasta dish to the next level. It was delicious. But it wasn’t just the fact that he could cook which made me think he was a keeper (I mean, it helped!) – it was the fact that he wasn’t satisfied with mediocre. Why settle for average, when you could put in a little more time and effort to produce something great? Turns out Manisha doesn’t ever just settle for ‘good enough’. He is driven and determined to do the absolute best at everything he puts his mind to, from making a humble bowl of pasta to managing big projects at work. I really admired his passion and determination, and knew then that he was who I wanted to be around every single day.

What do you love most about your partner?

Anna: I love Manisha’s kindness, patience, determination and sense of humour. When I’m with him, I want to be the best person I can possibly be.
Manisha: I love Anna’s passion and drive for everything she does. I love her sense of humour and her generosity. The best times of my life are when we are laughing together.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day?

There were so many incredible moments, but one of the standouts for us would be running/dancing our way into the reception to ‘Shake It Off’ by Taylor Swift. It got every single person up on the dance floor before entree was served, and I remember looking over at Manisha and at all our favourite people dancing, singing and laughing, and I thought  “It doesn’t get any better than this!”. Starting the dance floor pre-dinner really set the tone for the rest of the night. The speeches were an extremely emotional and special part of the day too.

Describe your wedding theme?

We wanted our city wedding to be modern yet timeless and with little ‘Anna + Manisha’ touches woven throughout. Styling-wise, I kept the colour palette fairly neutral, with greys, white and navy blue and accents of gold and blush pink, and kept each element quite simple. We sat with our guests on two long dining tables, with lush green foliage running down the length of each one. One of my favourite things about the reception was the two balloon installations, which added an element of surprise for guests and worked really well in the space (and made for some great photo opportunities for guests!).

We had guests travelling from near and far to attend our big day – Sri Lanka, the UK, Western Australia and country NSW – and we wanted to make sure they had a great time from the minute they arrived until the minute they left! We also wanted to show them some of our favourite parts of Melbourne, which is why we started the day with drinks and canapés on the roof at Siglo, and ended it dancing the night away in the backstreets of North Melbourne!

What was your favourite detail?

I loved my invitations, which were designed by a friend of mine, Caterina Martino. I love type and graphic design, so designing the invites was a really fun part of the entire experience for me! They were printed on super thick cotton stock with grey letterpress and gold hot foil – they were really special and set the tone of the wedding beautifully!

What is marriage to you?

Marriage is spending the rest of my days with my best friend, living a life filled with love, kindness, compassion, joy and patience.
