Heather + Brian: Relaxed Balinese Wedding

1

Two Scots met on the far corners of the earth in Perth, Western Australia. After a year and a half together, whilst in a cold and snowy Christmas in Edinburgh Scotland, Brian surprised me by getting down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of our lives together. He gave me a beautiful 1920’s vintage diamond and sapphire antique ring. A year and a half later we tied the knot in an Indian inspired wedding in surfers paradise Canggu, Bali surrounded by our nearest and dearest.

Our families have been such huge influences in our lives so our wedding was not only a celebration for us it was a celebration uniting our families as one from all over the world. We are a simple couple and wanted the wedding to reflect who we are and to be relaxed comfortable and fun. Natalie from Paper Diamonds helped make our day a reality.

Bali is such a beautiful and romantic part the world with a rich heritage and colourful culture so we wanted to enhance and celebrate its natural beauty. We married at a traditional private Balinese Villa (Sungaii Tingii) Canggu where the mouth of the river meets the sea, edged with a black volcanic beaches and rocky cliffs. Our intimate ceremony (45 people) was held under a stand-alone tree on the edge of the river. The tree was adorned with local Balinese flower garlands and roses. Guests sat around us in a circular format whilst Brian and I stood in a circle of petals. It was all about being wrapped around with the people who love us most.

My Indian inspired wedding dress was made using my mothers wedding dress; yes imagine 80’s poofy meringue and you have it. The silk that walked her down the aisle walked me down mine, the veil that she wore I wore. It was an honour and thanks to my parents for providing me with such a wonderful family and example to enter marriage into.

We wanted our wedding photographs to be relaxed and fun so we climbed across rocks by the sea and explored local fishing boats with smoke bombs. Photography was captured by the incredible Bonjo from Terralogical.
