Fairytale Wedding: Celia + Luke

1

Celia and Luke were married in a gorgeous garden wedding in the Southern Highlands of NSW. With the natural beauty of the greenery surrounding them, crisp black and white suits, dreamy blush bridesmaid dresses, and of course Celia’s elegant gown, the moment when Celia and Luke said ‘I do’ was picture perfect.

The pair are both extremely driven and motivated individuals, juggling demanding careers of banking (Luke) and accounting/auditing (Celia) while not sacrificing too much of their social life.

“We love spending time with family and friends, exercising and overall enjoying life!” Celia says. “We are very similar in many aspects, including our stubbornness.”

The proposal:

“We got engaged in New York on a roof top bar overlooking the Hudson river with the New York skyline in the background,” Celia says. “Luke had purchased the ring via late night phone calls to New York, with the help of friends who had contacts with a jeweller in New York City.  Luke collected the ring on the day of the proposal, pretending he had to take a trip to visit his work’s head office in NYC. Upon returning to the hotel he had to hide the ring (still in its box) in his underpants. Because Celia being Celia would have snooped into any bag brought home and blown the surprise!” she laughs.

That same evening Luke took Celia to a rooftop bar and whilst there, Celia, with no idea of Luke’s intention to propose, commented on how funny it would be if she suddenly yelled out ‘Yes, yes I will marry you’ to see how many free drinks they could get! This gave Luke the perfect segway. “What would you do if I did this?” he asked and then produced the ring.

The vows:

“I call upon the persons here present to witness that I Celia/Luke take thee, Celia/Luke to be my lawful wedded wife/husband. I will love you, believe in you, be honest with you, encourage you, support you in your endeavors, care for you in sickness as in health for better or worse, richer or poorer. You are my best friend and soul mate for life.”

During the ceremony Celia’s mum gave a reading which was also read at her own wedding and at Celia’s sister’s wedding—the start of a family tradition. The reading came from 1 Corinthians, featuring “Love never gives up and its faith, hope and patience never fails.”
