Eloise + Alex: Married in the rose garden

It’s hard not to adore the beautiful newlyweds that are Eloise and Alex. As they share a little piece of their vows with us below, it’s clear that they both have truly found the person to share the rest of their lives with.

Tell us about your proposal.
Alex and I booked a trip to Jimbaran Bay for my birthday, but what I didn’t know was that, prior to the trip, he had picked out an engagement ring and was planning on proposing. On our second night, we went out for dinner and cocktails at a beautiful restaurant that rests on a cliffs edge. After dinner we went for a walk, and when no one else was around, Alex got down on one knee and proposed. A few days later, my little sister and mum joined us in Bali and we spent the rest of the trip celebrating.

What do you love most about your partner?
Alex and I wrote our own vows and I feel like they cover what we love most about each other and how we knew we had found the one.

Eloise’s Vows;
Alex, I love that you have your own big dreams, yet always find the time to support mine. I love that when I lose things you always know where to find them and I love that I can tell you the same story over and over, and every time, you act just as interested as the first time I told you. All the little things you do each day to make me smile, make me happier than I even knew possible. So today, surrounded by the people we love most in the world, I choose you to be my husband and I promise to always respect you, to compromise with you, to talk openly to you, and every day, to always take time to appreciate how lucky I am that I found you.

Alex’s vows;
Eloise, since the day I first met you on the 19th of May in 2012, my life hasn’t been the same. When I found you, I found someone I can be myself around, someone I can talk to about anything, someone who supports my dreams, no matter how many times they may change, and someone who cares more for me than I even knew possible. When I found you, I found my best friend, and I promise to love and respect you for the amazing person you are. You have the most beautiful smile, best sense of humour and kindest heart, of anyone I know. And today and every day, I am the luckiest man to be standing by your side.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day?
During our wedding, I had three favourite little moments that were equally wonderful, making it impossible to pick just one. The first was right before the ceremony, we were waiting for our cue to walk down the aisle and nerves started to kick in when my two-year-old nephew ran up to me and gave me the biggest cuddle – all of my nerves disappeared. The second was during the ceremony when I looked to Alex and then out to all of our guests, it was a such an overwhelming feeling being in a garden with everyone that we love and care about so much. The last was at the end of the night; I requested the DJ play one of mine and my Dad’s favourite songs by The Cure, and dad and I danced together. It was the perfect end to such a brilliant day.

Describe your wedding theme.
Our wedding didn’t really have a theme; leading up to the wedding, I would read blogs and magazines and pick out different bits and pieces that we felt represented us as a couple. I found invitations with a border of bright watercolour flowers from Kathryn Green Illustration that Alex and I both adored, so we used these as the foundation to build on. I managed to track down a very talented cake decorator to paint the flowers from our stationary onto the wedding cake, and our florist was unbelievably skilled and managed to recreate the invites with real flowers, which tied everything in together.

What was your favourite detail?
My favourite detail was our invitations.

What is marriage to you?
Marriage to me is a celebration of love and friendship.
