Cockatoo Island Industrial Engagement Shoot

3

Patience paid off for newly engaged couple Jacqui and Red. After meeting in 2005, there was an immediate attraction and they became instant friends. As the years passed by, both Jacqui and Red found themselves single at the same time. Red seized the opportunity to ask Jacqui out for a “non-friendly” hangout: their first date. And they haven’t looked back!

With an engagement shoot on the historically rich Cockatoo Island, the pair got the shoot they dreamed of: the raw beauty that only an old industrial area can provide. Surrounded by brick walls and warehouses and blessed with high ceilings and the organic feel of rusted metals, their engagement shoot by Wedding Gallery Studio delivered.

What do you love about each other?

Jacqui: Red is the most patient and caring person, he understands me and lets me be myself. We are best friends, we are a team, and we are always supportive of each other.

Red: Jacqui is the most genuine, honest, and loyal person I know. She has the biggest heart when it comes to the people she loves and cares about and to me, these are the best qualities you can find in a person. Through her, I learnt to be a better person and a better partner.

I also love how independent she is: she can take care of herself so I don’t constantly have to worry about her, but I would still be there for her in a heart beat if she needs it.

How did you become engaged? Red proposed a day before Valentine’s Day by tricking me into thinking I was helping a friend out with a photo shoot.

The location Red chose for the shoot was within the same location we had our first date, so it had sentimental value. It started off as a group photo shoot and as I was getting my individual shots taken, Red crept up behind me and tapped me on the leg. When I turned around he was down on one knee. The whole thing was captured on camera and it will be cherished for a long time.

Why did you choose this style of shoot for your photos? We were looking for something different that was not so typical. We wanted to go for an industrial, edgy feel and a location that was a little rough around the edges. When we mentioned our vision to Evan, our photographer, he chose the perfect location. Cockatoo Island makes a beautiful yet raw backdrop for photos.
