Chris + Taylor: A touch of vintage

2

It was a chance encounter when Chris + Taylor first met. Taylor was lining up in-store when Chris, at the register, served her – the two exchanging smiles and stealing cheeky glances beforehand. Read on to find out just how the young, fun-loving couple became husband and wife.

HOW DID YOU TWO MEET?

Chris: “Taylor came into my work on a Thursday night looking for a video game. She was waiting in line and there was a lot of eye contact and smiling going on. Once I finally got to serve the cute girl, we didn’t have that game in stock but I continued to speak with her as long as I possibly could. After half an hour of talking about our lives and what our hobbies were, I had to find a way to contact her again. I gave her my website in hope she would find my contact details there but she proudly and confidently asked for my number. We haven’t been apart since.”

WHAT WAS THE PROPOSAL LIKE?

Chris: “I tricked Taylor into thinking we were going out to dinner. On the way there I pulled over and blindfolded her. I drove her to a park where we used to hang out when we were first dating. When we arrived there were candles and rose petals everywhere. There were photos of us and fairy lights all around us. I pulled off the blindfold and got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. I ended up taking her to our dinner and when we arrived home all of our friends and family were waiting to celebrate with us.”

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE YOUR VENUE?

“It was exactly what we were after. We’ve been to a lot of weddings where you spend a lot of the day travelling from the ceremony location to the reception. We wanted out guests to be comfortable and keep the party going while we were gone. Longworth had two stunning vintage rooms that we fell in love with the moment we walked in the room. It feels like you step into another era, we love vintage things and we wanted our location to reflect that.”

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE THEME?

Taylor: “Chris wanted to bring the outdoors in. We asked for a lot of greenery and gorgeous colours still in keeping with a beautiful vintage vibe to suit both the building and my dress.”

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE DETAIL FROM THE DAY AND WHY?

Chris: “Mine was Taylor’s dress. It was so much more beautiful than I expected, and it perfectly encapsulated Taylor’s style. I spent years imagining it and seeing her in it for the first time was a moment I’ll never forget.”

Taylor: “I loved our reception. Seeing all of our loved ones in one big room, with so much love, is so surreal. The styling and florals made it feel like such a glamorous event.”

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR DRESS? HOW LONG IT TOOK TO FIND IT & THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE?

Taylor: “It took me a while to find the perfect dress. I knew I wanted something very old-worldly and struggled to find that in Newcastle. I found Forever Vintage online and fell in love with all the dresses they showcased on their website. I contacted Casey and Cheryl and set up an appointment with them one year and one month before the wedding. I tried on four dresses before I found ‘the one’. It had long sleeves and was ‘poofy’, just like my grandmothers. She used to be a dressmaker and was heartbroken that she couldn’t make my wedding dress, Forever Vintage let me still have the old-worldly look just like my grandmothers wedding dress, so it all fit perfectly. I loved driving up to Sydney and seeing the girls, they were so sweet and lovely, and were so excited for me!”

FAVORITE MOMENT / MEMORY FROM THE DAY?

“Seeing each other for the first time. Taylor walking down the aisle and Chris standing there waiting.”

WHAT DOES MARRIAGE MEAN TO YOU?

“Spending every day with your best friend. Growing and learning with them. Being the geekiest person you can be with them and not being ashamed for collecting comic books, or loving Kanye West or playing video games. Encouraging them to be their best self each and every day.”

ANY STAND OUT VENDORS?

“Longworth House, their service and food was incredible. We had so many of our guests compliment how lovely and kind their staffing was. Forever Vintage, they were the sweetest girls from the very start, brutally honest and ladies with such fabulous wisdom!”

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO MENTION?

“Our amazing photographer, Lauren. We followed her work since we first got engaged and booked her immediately. Every picture of a wedding she would post, Chris and I would show one another and say, ‘That’ll be us soon!!’. When we first looked at our photos for the first time together, she told our story the way it was meant to be told. She was so kind and such a little photo-taking ninja! We loved having her there on our big day.”
