Brittany + Jeff

The first time I crushed on Jeff was when we went “secret beach” camping with a load of friends and my older sister off the coast of Davenport Beach. We set up a huge bonfire and blasted music while kicking up salty water as we moved to the beat. At some point I noticed Jeff sitting on a rock that was inches from the ocean. It was here where I decided to make my move, so I climbed up on the rock to give this man a kiss. Every year since we continued to visit that rock, except on our fourth anniversary, instead of our annual kiss renewal, Jeff asked me if I would marry him.

I think my favourite memory of the day was right before the ceremony. As per tradition, Jeff and I were trying not to see each other before I walked down the aisle, but I started to feel panicky as the magnitude of what was about to happen set in. I wouldn’t call it nerves or “cold feet”, just sort of overwhelmed. Suddenly I burst into tears and my mom and bridesmaids just froze and didn’t know what to do. One of them blurted out, ‘Do you want me to get Jeff?’ and I immediately said, “YES!” Jeff came rushing in and gave me a big hug and said, “It’s OK hun … You’re OK.” It was all I needed in the world! Just that hug and those words totally calmed me and made me feel at home. I was totally fine after that and took to the aisle beaming at my new husband-to-be.

Throughout the planning stages of the wedding our family members started to ask what they could do to help out. And so we tried to find things we thought that each person would enjoy doing. My mom, for example, is an amazing gourmet cook and so I thought it would be so special if she made our wedding cake. She was very nervous but after a test run she whipped together an incredible goat cheese cheesecake with fig topping, and adorned it with our wedding flowers. It turned out so beautifully! And of course very tasty.
