Authentic Australian Wedding: Rachael + Josiah

0

Rachael and Josiah’s love for each other was bursting long before the day that they said ‘I do’. Barely able to contain their happiness and excitement, the pair tied the knot on a gorgeous private property in Silverdale, NSW. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Australian fields with native trees lining the horizon, the pair had a beautiful outdoor ceremony that combined their love of rustic and sophisticated country vibes.

Tell us about your proposal: Josiah took me to Double Island for the weekend. He claimed he wanted to test his new car out on the sand and I was excited for a weekend away! Jo told me about this lighthouse that overlooked the water and was convinced I needed to see it so he took me out and we had a picnic. The sun was setting and the sky was filled with colours so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to take some photos. I turned around to show Jo the photos I had taken and saw him down on one knee. It didn’t click for me instantly so I asked him what he was doing, then he pulled out the ring and I was shocked! I didn’t expect it to happen at all let alone that day; I was completely thrown off my guard. It was the happiest I’ve ever felt and I could not believe it.

How did you know your partner was the one? One night, after spending time with him and my friend we went back to his house. We couldn’t stay long because my friend was bored and tired so we decided to leave. Just before we were leaving Jo found a letter I had written in his phone a couple of days ago. The note talked about how much I loved him and how I thought he was amazing. He stopped me from leaving and got really emotional. He told me how he wanted to be my only love and how he wanted a future with me, how he never wanted to be without me. I was overcome with emotions and at that point I realised I never wanted to be without him either. I wanted to wake up with him everyday and kiss him goodnight. That’s when I knew he was the one.

What do you love most about your partner?
Rachael: I love that no matter what kind of mood I am in, he loves me regardless. His love is so amazing and like nothing I have ever felt in my life before. I love that he has such a passionate heart as well… not only does he want to love me and make me happy, but he also strives to make everyone around him happy. What I love most of all, however, is the way he knows me better than anyone else. He knows me better than I know me and I don’t know what more a girl can ask for!

Josiah: I love the way she smiles at me and loves me for who I am. Every single day I think I know her, but she keeps showing me some more of her little quirks that just make me love her all that much more. She is the most beautiful human in the whole entire world, and I can’t see myself loving anyone else more than I love her. She is also the most caring person I know. She cares for children within her job with all her heart, and I can’t wait for that to be our children one day soon.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day? The wedding day was such a rush! It flew by and I barely even got time with him, especially after the ceremony. It was so nice when we were shooting the photos of just us. We walked over to the top of a hill and our photographers Trent and Jessie took long shots. It was the first time in a couple of days that I really had time with him and this time he was my husband. It was probably the best part of the wedding day because we got to be alone and chat about how cool it is to now be husband and wife.

Describe your wedding theme? Our theme was completely us. We integrated some rustic looks with sophisticated country elements but ultimately it was an accumulation of everything that was Rach and Jo. In that way it was very authentic and special to us.

What was your favourite detail? The flowers were amazing, the florist did such a wonderful job. All of the colours just worked so well together and complemented each other wonderfully. When I look back, that’s what stands out most to me: it’s what I am most impressed about.

What is marriage to you? Marriage is spending the rest of your life with your best friend. It’s about being the other person’s support network and knowing that no matter what happens you will always have them there to love you. Marriage is hard and it’s tolling but at the end of the day you know you love them and they love you and you kiss them goodnight knowing they will be there when you wake up.
