Amber + Neihana

Amber and Neihana planned their wedding day close to home, opting to say ‘I do’ at Wallaceville House, the same place that Amber’s parents were married. Their wedding day resonated closeness and was filled with personal touches from their talented family and friends. Scroll down to see how the day came together, and to read more about how Neihana popped the question (trust us, it’s worth the scrolling).

‘It was both expected and unexpected at the same time. We had talked about when we wanted to be married and what rings I liked, but he was determined to catch me off guard. The day that it happened I had flown to Wellington and back from Christchurch to be a part of my best friend’s proposal to her boyfriend. I came home exhausted and was eating Chinese take-out in my PJ’s when a friend of ours, burst in and said that Neihana had lost his dog in the botanic gardens while on his run. Dressed in a coat, PJs and my gumboots I was dragged into a late night search. Raving and ranting that he needed to be way angrier at Neihana for what he had done, we walked right past where Neihana was waiting in the park before I noticed who it was. Looking super dashing in a suit and tie, Neihana asked me to sit down at his beautiful candle lit picnic while he played me a song. He had been working on it for months – it was beautiful. After a teary speech (and many many more tears at my end) he popped the question. It was a very special and emotional day. My bestie and I double dated with our now husbands on our first dates, got engaged on the same day, and were each other’s maid of honour. Sounds very cliché but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world,’ says Amber.
