A Wedding of Summer, Sunshine, and Smiles

A Dutch beauty and her Australian beau tied the knot in a beautiful garden wedding in the Netherlands. Blessed with sunshine and the company of close family and friends, nothing could ruin the love between the pair on their special day.

Tell us about your proposal. We went camping in our van at Seal Rocks hoping to get a surf early in the morning, but when we woke up it turned out to be a very stormy morning and there was no surf. So we decided to walk up to the lighthouse together. We were checking the view over the ocean when Shannon went on one knee in his pyjamas.

How did you know your partner was the one?
Chris: We just go so well together. I am very impulsive and he is very well organised. We learn from each other and love each other so much; I could write a whole book about our love. Maybe I should!
Shannon: I fell head over heels in love with Chris. We have so much fun and we make each other laugh.

What do you love most about your partner?
Chris: No matter what, he is always there for me, supportive, and proud. He doesn’t judge anyone and is always willing to help people. Also, he is a very happy person.
Shannon: Chris is very outgoing and not afraid to try anything new. She wears her heart on her sleeve and loves me for who I am.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day?
Chris: My dad’s speech thanking my mum for the women, wife and mother she is. And also, the last song was All You Need is Love by The Beatles and everyone spontaneously made a circle around us and sang along to the song; it was magical!
Shannon: My favourite part was seeing Chris walking down the aisle.

Describe your wedding theme. Our wedding theme was a relaxed garden wedding with lots of flowers, family, friends and good food. The Australian and Dutch family were all mixed together very well and we had the chickens running around. After the ceremony everyone took their shoes off and was relaxing and enjoying the evening.

What was your favourite detail? Our best friends Isabel and Kevin took Polaroid photos throughout the day and gave us a hanging Polaroid tree to hang all the photos on.

What is marriage to you?
To support each other and enjoy life together.
Shannon: A lifetime commitment to each other, someone to share your journey and adventures with.
