A Minimal + Rustic California Wedding

0

Before their ceremony, James + Marie were able to take these fun first looks at Noguchi Garden, a minimalist sculpture garden in California. We love the variety between the different areas, from the crisp, minimal structures to the tall Redwoods. It all made for the most spectacular first looks. The rest of the day was just as fun and romantic, with an intimate ceremony, food trucks and string lights everywhere.

Tell us about your proposal. It was an amazing surprise!  On our first vacation to Hawaii, James pretended to take photos of the sunrise off the beach – but he joined me in front of the camera and went on one knee.  We were able to record the proposal and still be in this honest moment between us.  It was everything perfect about our relationship – it felt like just us, full of love, a little clumsy, and almost like a dream.

How did you know your partner was the one? I’d say I knew James was the one very early on.  I had never been with anyone I was comfortable being 100% myself with.  When we are together, everything else fades to the background and it feels right.

What do you love most about your partner? I love how selfless he is.  He is the most romantic human I know.  He never seizes to amaze me how he tells/shows me he loves me hundreds of different ways.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day? I honestly loved every bit about our wedding.  The fact that it was an intimate wedding with just close friends and family who traveled from near and far; the fact that our fur baby was part of it; and how perfect the weather was for being in December.  Everything about the wedding was exactly what we dreamed and more and I could live in that day forever.

Describe your wedding theme/style. Our wedding style had hints of rustic, nature, and minimal, but we like to describe our wedding as “Romantically Fun”.  Romantic with the bistro lights, large trees surrounding us, ghost chairs and long white tables with beautiful garlands going across.  Fun with our food trucks, our “Foreva Eva” cake topper, our dog roaming across the dancefloor, and our favorite songs playing throughout the night.

What is marriage to you? James: Marriage is the union of us.  It is going through life’s challenges as one.  We will need to be patient, communicate early on, have grace, and work together to get through all the crap life will throw at us.  But the laughing, embracing, dancing, and the love shared is worth it, and marriage is knowing we will persevere.
